“When it’s being used as an insult, bitch is an epithet hurled at women who speak their minds, who have opinions and do not shy away from expressing them, and who do not sit by and smile uncomfortably if they are bothered or offended. If being an outspoken woman means being a bitch, we will take that as a compliment, thanks.” –Bitch Magazine
Wow, I never knew there was a Bitch magazine. But there is and it’s pretty damn cool. It has been around for 12 years, with the goal of pointing out the insidious, everyday sexism that is so rampant in our pop culture and providing alternatives that celebrate prowoman and profeminism pop products. Actually, Bitch is more than a magazine; it has morphed into BitchMedia and has a Web site/blog full of really smart articles, podcasts, videos, and, if you live in the Portland, Oregon, area, a library stocked full of books for women.
