Effective Birth Control

Heart Shaped Lollypop
“The most effective form of birth control I know is spending the day with my kids.”

—Jill Bensley

I think this quote is hilarious.

The other day my 20-year-old nephew asked me why I never had kids. I think he was surprised that I never had children of my own because I really love hanging out with and spoiling all my nieces and nephews. I hadn’t been asked this question in quite a while, and it made me stop and think about it. I never had the overwhelming desire to have kids the way most women do. That biological clock never even started to tick for me. I guess I was born without the baby-maker gene and got the driven, obsessed career-woman gene instead (which, by the way, is totally cool with me). I didn’t get the baking, cleaning, or scrap booking genes either.

Maybe the reason why I never had kids is because I got the best birth control ever: I spent too much time babysitting other people’s kids when I was a teenager.

I told my nephew that the reason I didn’t have children is because I wanted to focus on being the best aunt ever, so I could spoil them rotten, fill them up with candy, and then be able to call my siblings to come get them after I got them good and sugared up.

But I know the real reason why I never had children of my own: I like to sleep in way too much.
