Five Things I Learned from the Akron Bloggers Community

Club Sign

I recently joined the Akron Bloggers Community and attended my first meeting last week at Mocha Joe’s  Cafe in Stow. It’s a diverse group that shares the pleasurable avocation of blogging, and I definitely picked up some great information that I thought I would pass along, so here’s the top five nuggets I picked up along with a great caffeine buzz:

1)      Deborah Shapiro of Montrose Video turned us all on to an incredible new app that allows you to create a tag that you can put on a business card or a brochure that can be scanned by a smart phone to take a potential customer to a video or Web site for your business. Pretty cool stuff…check it out at

“Bloggers from Akron rock!”

2)      WordPress has a plug-in called Simple Pull Quote that allows you to pull out and feature a quote within a blog post. Check it out…

3)      I can offer my blog at the Kindle Store on Amazon. How cool is that?! Click here if you want to be the first to purchase a feed of MariaMedia on your Kindle Reader!  If you try to purchase within the next 24-48 hours the pricing is still pending, so please try again later in the week.

4)      I really can go to camp this year. The Pittsburgh Pod Camp is coming up this September 18 and is a free all-day event for bloggers, writers, and tech geeks. I can’t wait to spend a day with some really cool people and learn more fun stuff about the wonderful world of blogging. (I just hope this camp includes making crafts and singing around the campfire too!)

5)      There are a ton of amazing, talented people in the Akron area. I’ve been attending group meetings throughout Cleveland and Akron, and I would have to say that the ones in Akron are, by far, the best, because people from Akron rock!

If you would like to check out the fine work of the Akron Bloggers Community, I’ll be posting links to their blogs here for your reading enjoyment.

Here’s the list shared by Deborah Chaddock Brown.

Mocha Joe's in Stow — rather rolls off the tongue. What a great idea, meeting up with bloggers in the café. I’ll have to see if anyone is doing that in my area.

I recently started yoga. Stiff at the beginning and limber at the end. Amazing! Take care.
