“You have to love a nation that celebrates its independence every July 4, not with a parade of guns, tanks, and soldiers who file by the White House in a show of strength and muscle, but with family picnics where kids throw Frisbees, the potato salad gets iffy, and the flies die from happiness. You may think you have overeaten, but it is patriotism.” —Erma Bombeck
I do love America! And I really love the Fourth of July. I think one of the best inventions ever was the summertime three-day weekend from work. It is the savior of nine-to-fivers nationwide who are yearning for just a few more hours of summertime fun and freedom.
Most of my life it has rained for some portion of the Fourth of July weekend, so here’s hoping the holiday weather gods look kindly upon northeast Ohio or wherever you live and bless us with an amazing weekend of food, fun, family, friends, fireworks and lots of sparklers (sparklers may just be the second best invention ever!).
If you log on to MariaMedia on Monday, July 5, here’s my official voice mail message… “Hello, you’ve reached the voice mail of MariaMedia. We’re sorry we cannot offer you any new content today, as we are officially commemorating the adoption of the Declaration of Independence and the glorious gift of the federal holiday three-day weekend with picnics, parades, and partying. Enjoy the fun and we’ll be back on Tuesday, sunburned, bloated, and happy.”
