Waves and yoga; these two words together equal extreme relaxation and a calming yoga practice. I’ve written many times about how amazing it is to practice yoga while listening to the sound of waves. It’s the best soundtrack I can think of. If you’re landlocked or can’t get to the beach, there is still hope for you—pick up a great CD of water and wave music.
I recently found a great local musician who is creating beautiful music with the sounds of nature. Greg Slawson has recently released Waterflow II, a collection of original compositions that include sounds of water from the Canadian Rockies, the Gulf Coast of Florida, and northeast Ohio (yeah, Lake Erie waves are the best!). The CD is perfect for chilling out, practicing yoga, meditation, and I would even love to hear this while getting a massage. Here’s a video to give you a sample of the music and also some incredible images of nature.
Greg and his wife Candice Lee manage Slawson and Lee Piano Studio, where they teach classical piano, jazz theory, and improvisation. Greg is also an adjunct instructor of jazz piano at the College of Wooster. They have taken their love and interest of both nature and technology and began creating amazing videos that include images of nature blended with Greg’s original music and recordings.
If you love nature and music, check out their blog at http://www.gccreativestudio.com/blog/ or you can join them on Facebook. Their photos from Yellowstone Park are amazing, but my favorite video (so far) is the one below, from their trips to Kelleys Island on Lake Erie. Kelleys Island is a beautiful island; not as party-focused as Put-In-Bay, but full of natural wonders and lots of waves. If you get a chance, take a ferry over to Kelleys Island and rent a bike for a ride around the entire island—the waterfront views are sublime.
Greg and Candice, I love your music, creativity, passion for nature, and your dedication to inspiring people to walk their creative paths. I know you have inspired me!
